Dass die Norweger 1349 nicht auf meiner musikalischen Wellenlänge liegen, war mir natürlich schon vorher klar. Vielmehr versprach ich mit von den Black Metallern interessante Fotos auf der W:E:T Stage. Leider war die Bühne durchweg in einer Nebelwand mit, wie sollte es anders sein, rotem, wahlweise blauen Licht getaucht. Somit war die Band auch seitens Publikum kaum erkennbar (da könnten die Musiker sich eigentlich das Corps Painting sparen).
Interessante Herausforderung für den Fotografen in mir und mein Abschluss des zweiten Tages beim WOA.
Noch ein Wort zum Headliner des Tages, Guns ‚N Roses: Die Amis ließen für ihren Gig keine Foto- und Filmleute zu. Darüber hinaus wurde uns akkreditierten Fotografen und Filmern auch das Fotografieren/Filmen aus dem Publikum (auch mit Handy) untersagt, während natürlich alle anderen fröhlich Bilder machen konnten.
Das Infield war mehr als voll und die Leute, die die Gunners sehen wollten, standen bis zur Wackinger Bühne.
Die Show, 3 ½ Stunden, blockierte indes fast alle weiteren Auftritte auf anderen Bühnen, fast…
Der Sound war unterirdisch, wahrscheinlich, weil G’NR eigene Leute für den Sound dabeihatten (Spekulation) und Axl sang katastrophal. Schon nach drei Songs wanderten viele Leute enttäuscht ab.
Die Fans, die nicht im Infield standen, konnten kaum ausmachen, welche Songs gespielt wurden und sehen konnten sie schon gar nichts. Traurige Geschichte.
Of course, I knew beforehand that the Norwegians 1349 weren’t really my cup of tea musically. Instead, I was more excited about the cool photos I could take of the black metal band on the W:E:T Stage. Unfortunately, the stage was completely shrouded in a wall of fog with, unsurprisingly, red or blue lighting. As a result, the band was barely visible to the audience (the musicians could have saved themselves the trouble of body painting).
This presented an interesting challenge for the photographer in me and marked the end of my second day at WOA.
One more word about the headliner of the day, Guns N‘ Roses: The Americans did not allow any photographers or filmmakers at their gig. In addition, we accredited photographers and filmmakers were also prohibited from taking photos or filming from the audience (even with cell phones), while everyone else was of course free to take pictures.
The infield was more than full, and the people who wanted to see the Gunners were standing all the way to the Wackinger stage.

The sound was terrible, probably because G’NR had their own sound people with them (speculation), and Axl sang disastrously. After just three songs, many people wandered off in disappointment.
The fans who weren’t standing in the infield could hardly make out which songs were being played, and they couldn’t see anything. Sad story.
