Eine damals in den Kinderschuhen steckende kompetente Metal Presse, nötigte Hartwurst Fanatiker wie mich, gut sortierte Plattenläden aufzusuchen, um an neues interessantes Material zu kommen. Für mich war das 1983 das ELPI in Bonn, wo ich mindestens einmal wöchentlich einlief, um zu schauen, was an neuen Bands und Alben verfügbar war.
Heavy Pettin aus Glasgow, hatten nach zwei Jahren Band Existenz endlich einen Longplayer, „Lettin Loose“ am Start. Produziert wurde das Album von Queen Gitarrist Brian May, was mich extrem neugierig machte.
Bis zum heutigen Tag haben die Jungs gerade mal vier Langeisen veröffentlicht; das aktuelle, „Rock Generation„, erschien vor ein paar Tagen.
1988 war die Band leider schon am Ende; erfreulicherweise raufte man sich dann 2017 aber wieder auf.
Dass ich Heavy Pettin einmal live erleben könnte, war eher eine Wunschvorstellung denn realistische Möglichkeit. Dass man nun aber mit Uriah Heep als Support auf Tour gehen konnte, war nicht nur für mich die Erfüllung eines Wunschtraumes.
Viel Zeit hatten die Jungs als Opener nicht, machten aber einen klasse Job, obwohl wohl die Wenigste, im Bochumer RuhrCongress etwas mit der Band anfangen konnte.
Für mich ein Punkt weniger auf meiner Löffel Liste, und für den Auftritt einen fetten Daumen nach oben!
Back then, the metal press was still in its infancy, forcing die-hard fans like me to seek out well-stocked record stores to find new and interesting material. For me, that place was ELPI in Bonn in 1983, where I went at least once a week to see what new bands and albums were available.
Heavy Pettin from Glasgow finally had a long player, “Lettin Loose,” ready after two years of existence. The album was produced by Queen guitarist Brian May, which made me extremely curious.To date, the guys have released just four albums; the latest, “Rock Generation,” came out a few days ago.
Unfortunately, the band had already broken up by 1988, but fortunately they got back together in 2017.
The idea that I would ever get to see Heavy Pettin live was more of a pipe dream than a realistic possibility. But the fact that they were now going on tour with Uriah Heep as support was a dream come true, and not just for me.
The guys didn’t have much time as the opening act, but they did a great job, even though very few people at the RuhrCongress in Bochum were familiar with the band.For me, it’s one less item on my bucket list, and I give the performance a big thumbs up!
