Ich muss gestehen, dass ich noch nie derart stolz war, einen Musiker fotografiert zu haben, wie in Wacken auf der Louder Stage Bob Geldof und die Boomtown Rats. Als Mitbegründer von Band Aid hat er zugunsten der hungernden Bevölkerung Afrikas hunderttausende von Euros einspielen können, und auch weitere soziale Engagements begleiten ihn bis zum heutigen Tag.
Mit „I Don’t like Mondays“ wurden die Boomtown Rats 1979 weltbekannt. Im Fahrwasser des Punks und der New Wave eroberten sie die Charts. Ich hätte nie zu hoffen gewagt, die Rats jemals live sehen zu können. Und der Auftritt auf der Louder Stage war alles andere als lngweilig. Sir Geldof rannte mit seinen 74 Jahren wie ein Jungspund über die Bretter, als wenn er der Welt beweisen wollte, dass immer noch mit ihm zu rechnen ist. Mit seiner Band absolvierte er einen tighten Set, der mir unvergesslich bleiben wird.

I must admit that I have never been so proud to have photographed a musician as I was in Wacken on the Louder Stage with Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats. As co-founder of Band Aid, he has raised hundreds of thousands of euros for the starving people of Africa, and he continues to be involved in other social causes to this day.
The Boomtown Rats became world famous in 1979 with “I Don’t Like Mondays.” In the wake of punk and new wave, they conquered the charts. I never dared to hope that I would ever see the Rats live. And their performance on the Louder Stage was anything but boring. At 74, Sir Geldof ran across the stage like a youngster, as if he wanted to prove to the world that he is still a force to be reckoned with. With his band, he performed a tight set that will remain unforgettable to me.
