Ich muss gestehen, dass Running Wild ganz ganz oben auf meiner Liste fürs Wacken 2026 standen. Ich habe Rock’n’Rolf und Band tatsächlich nie live gesehen und war um so erfreuter, dass es wenigsten zum Abschluss seiner Live-Karriere endlich geklappt hat. Running Wild haben geniale Alben herausgebracht, haben aber auch im Laufe der Jahrzehnte jede Menge Schelte einstecken müssen. Zum einen, weil ihr „Studio-Drummer“ immer wieder im Fokus stand (mehr will ich dazu nicht sagen), zum anderen wurden die späteren Alben immer mehr verrissen. Schaut man aber mit Abstand auf die Werke der Band, muss man den Jungs eingestehen, dass sie jede Menge Killersongs veröffentlicht haben, eben weil sie ihrem Stil treu geblieben sind. Die Show war für mich DAS Erlebnis dieses Jahr in Wacken, ein bisher unerfüllter Traum wurde wahr, ein fantastische Gig. Und dafür bin ich aus tiefstem Herzen dankbar!
I have to admit that Running Wild was right at the top of my list for Wacken 2026. I’d actually never seen Rock’n’Rolf and the band live, so I was all the more delighted that it finally worked out—at least to mark the end of his live career. Running Wild has released some brilliant albums, but they’ve also had to endure a lot of criticism over the decades. On the one hand, because their “studio drummer” was constantly in the spotlight (I won’t say any more about that); on the other hand, their later albums were increasingly panned. But if you take a step back and look at the band’s body of work, you have to give the guys credit for releasing a ton of killer songs—precisely because they’ve stayed true to their style. For me, the show was THE highlight of this year’s Wacken; a long-held dream came true—a fantastic gig. And for that, I’m grateful from the bottom of my heart!
