Noch im strömenden Regen gings für mich von der Wackinger zur Wasteland Stage, wo die amerikanischen Thrasher Warbringer die Bühne in Schutt und Asche legten. Der Regen ließ kurz nach, bevor er um so heftiger auf das Publikum (und die Fotografen im Pit) herunterprasselte. Obwohl ich nicht sehr lange vor der Bühne ausgehalten habe, hinterließen Warbringer bei mir einen bleibenden und äußerst guten Eindruck. Die Bilder vermitteln sehr klar, warum.
Es sei mir an dieser Stelle gestattet, etwas Kritik zu äußern: klar, Regeln werden nicht umsonst gemacht und jeder ärgert sich hier und da, dass es einen selbst erwischt. Im Fall des Security Chefs an der Wasteland Bühne war das Maß für mich und viele meiner Foto Kollegen und Kolleginnen allerdings voll! Statt uns bei strömenden Regen auf der linken Seite, die immer frei und nur zehn Meter zum befestigten Weg Richtung Presse Bereich entfernt war, bestand der Knabe, der uns von oben herab „siezte“, darauf, dass wir uns immer durch den extrem hohen Schlamm durch das komplette Publikum auf die andere Seite der Bühne begeben mussten. Mit Kameras im Wert von Kleinwagen rutschend, stolpernd und dem heftigen Regen ausgesetzt. Und dann, nach den drei Songs, genau diesen Weg durch die Menge wieder zurück. Für uns, mit unserem empfindlichen Equipment ein NO GO, so dass nicht nur für mich, das Warbringer Konzert das erste und letzte auf der Wastland Stage bleiben sollte. Etwas Flexibilität sollte gewährleistet sein (übrigens bei keiner anderen Bühne ein Problem). Schade für die Bands.
Still in the pouring rain, I made my way from the Wackinger to the Wasteland Stage, where the American thrashers Warbringer reduced the stage to rubble. The rain let up briefly before it poured down all the harder on the audience (and the photographers in the pit). Although I didn’t last very long in front of the stage, Warbringer left a lasting and extremely good impression on me. The pictures clearly show why.
At this point I would like to express some criticism: of course, rules are not made for nothing and everyone gets annoyed here and there when they get caught. However, in the case of the head of security at the Wasteland stage, I and many of my photo colleagues were really annoyed! Instead of keeping us on the left side of the stage in the pouring rain, which was always free and only ten meters away from the paved path towards the press area, the guy who “saluted” us from above insisted that we always had to make our way through the extremely high mud through the entire audience to the other side of the stage. Sliding, stumbling and exposed to the heavy rain with cameras worth of small cars. And then, after the three songs, exactly the same way back through the crowd. For us, with our sensitive equipment, a NO GO, so that the Warbringer concert was to be the first and last on the Wastland Stage, and not just for me. Some flexibility should be guaranteed (not a problem with any other stage, by the way). Too bad for the bands.
