Ruhe in Frieden Rudy!
Yesterday, I received the sad news that former Warlock guitarist Rudy Graf had passed away on April 10, 2026.
Despite his apparent withdrawal from the music business, Rudy still has many fans today who have been waiting for years—even decades—for him to release new music.
As is well known, Rudy was part of the original Warlock lineup from 1983 to 1985 and played on the debut album Burning The Witches and its follow-up, Hellbound.
Rudy and the rest of the Warlock musicians “went their separate ways,” so the guitarist focused on his solo project “Joker” from then on.
A brief stint with Rage interrupted his solo efforts in 1987, before he returned to Joker and drove the new project forward with Tommy Bremke (Finke, ex-Holy Moses), who sadly passed away suddenly on May 23, 2022.
Rudy wasn’t an easy person; he had his rough edges, but he was also very endearing.
There’s no doubt that he was a fantastic musician and songwriter. That he could have built a successful career with a little more diplomacy is, to me, as certain as “Amen” in church.
Rudy had goals that he pursued without compromise. He never compromised his principles; he always remained true to himself.
“All or nothing”—that was his motto.
Although we hadn’t been in touch for many years, I remember Rudy Graf as a friend.
The news of his death has affected me deeply.
Rudy was buried at the Catholic cemetery in Düsseldorf Benrath.
I wish his family much strength and the hope that he is now reunited with Tommy and making music again.
Rest in peace, Rudy!
