The speed metallers Regicide from Wuppertal invited to the Haus der Jugend in Wuppertal for their album release. Great venue, which holds about 600 people and was sold out that evening. As support Axe Victims, who called me on the plan without further ado and I made my way to Wuppertal.
The guys‘ set was unfortunately only 50 minutes long, but intense enough to warm up the crowd in front of the stage. Frank Herbst took over the four-string for bassist Holly George, who was still in poor health.
A great evening up to that point, but one that came to an abrupt end for me afterwards.
This has never happened to me in my career as a concert photographer (since 1983, after all): anyone who knows me knows that I always arrive very early, especially if, like this time, it’s my first time at a venue and/or there’s no photo pit.
I found a great spot; after all, I want to deliver decent photos.
During the changeover break, a bald-headed moron came to the front and made some stupid remarks in my direction. When Regicide started, he squeezed in next to me and kept bumping into me. Every time I lifted my camera to take a photo, he pulled his arm up and held it in front of my lens.
After a handful of “successful” shots, I was so pissed off that I broke off and drove home.
Too bad for Regicide, for whom I now have nothing useful in the way of photos.
And to the moron: nobody needs fans like you!!!
