Geboren bin ich im Jahr 1960.
\nWarum ich mich als Jugendlicher zur harten Musik hingezogen f\u00fchlte, kann ich heute nur erahnen: Rebellion, anders sein, bewusst den Au\u00dfenseiter spielen.
\nDas kann aber auf Dauer nur funktionieren, wenn man wirklich Gefallen an h\u00e4rteren T\u00f6nen hat.<\/p>\n

In meiner Jugend bestand jeder Kontakt zur Musik lediglich \u00fcber Schallplatten, die ich mir von meinem Taschen-, Geburtstags, Weihnachts- oder Kirmesgeld leistete.<\/p>\n

Mit 12 dann das erste Konzert: Suzi Quatro<\/strong><\/em> mit der Vorband Mud<\/strong><\/em>. Beide Bands hielten sich 1973 permanent in den Charts und zeigten einen Trend zum H\u00e4rteren auf.<\/p>\n

Zu Hause standen Platten von Deep Purple, UFO, Led Zeppelin<\/strong><\/em>.
\nDiese Bands live zu sehen war schier unm\u00f6glich f\u00fcr mich. Alleine die Informationen, wann welche Band wo auftrat, waren kaum zu bekommen; zumal auch jeder Bravo Kauf von meinen Eltern unterbunden wurde. Eine Hard und Heavy Presse gab es schlie\u00dflich noch nicht; vom Internet ganz zu schweigen.<\/p>\n

Mitte \/ Ende der 70er folgten dann weitere Konzerte: Status Quo, Queen<\/strong><\/em>\u2026
\nUnd als ich dann der elterlichen Behausung den R\u00fccken kehrte, ging\u2019s dann erst richtig los.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4hrend der Konzerte zu fotografieren, kam mir damals noch nicht in den Sinn. Damit begann ich Anfang der 80er, z.B. beim legend\u00e4ren Rock Pop In Concert<\/strong> <\/em>mit Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Def Leppard, MSG, Ozzy Osbourne, Krokus, Quiet Riot<\/strong><\/em> und Judas Priest<\/strong><\/em>.
\nAllerdings aus dem Publikum, mit einem 400er Film und einem 135mm Tele.
\nDie Bilder waren verst\u00e4ndlicherweise alles andere als gut \u2013 aber berauschend. Berauschend, weil ich, wenn auch recht schlecht, einen Teil grandioser Musikgeschichte bildlich festgehalten hatte.<\/p>\n

Ich wollte mehr, bessere Aufnahmen, n\u00e4her ran an die Bands.
\n1985 stieg ich beim Bonner Fanzine LIVE WIRE<\/strong> <\/em>ein, und das gab mir Gelegenheit, meine Idole zu treffen, Interviews zu f\u00fchren und aus dem Fotograben zu agieren.<\/p>\n

Mit der damaligen Technik alles gar nicht so einfach (was nicht bedeuten soll, dass es heute uneingeschr\u00e4nkt besser ist).
\nLichtempfindliche Filme h\u00f6rten meistens bei 400 ASA \/ 27 ISO auf.
\nDie Filmpatrone enthielt gerade mal 36 Aufnahmen und man musste w\u00e4hrend der ersten drei Songs mindestens einmal nachlegen.
\nUnd schlussendlich wusste man erst nach Entwickeln des Films, ob man etwas Gutes zu Stande gebracht hatte.<\/p>\n

1992 habe ich dann das LIVE WIRE<\/strong> <\/em>eingestellt; als Hobby, neben Familie, Beruf usw war die n\u00f6tige Zeit nicht mehr vorhanden.<\/p>\n

Das \u00e4nderte aber nichts an der Liebe zur harten Musik. Unz\u00e4hlige CD K\u00e4ufe, ein Abo des besten Metal Magazins \u201eRock Hard\u201c, und ich war bestens informiert.<\/p>\n

Mit dem Einzug der digitalen Fotografie versuchte ich dann, meine Konzertbesuche wieder mit Fotografieren zu verbinden: alte Kontakte (man bedenke: es lagen fast 20 Jahre dazwischen), verhalfen mir wieder zu Fotop\u00e4ssen.
\nGaby Hoffmann<\/strong><\/em>, (damalige) Ehefrau von Gitarristen Wolf und Managerin von ACCEPT<\/strong> <\/em>war die erste, die mir die M\u00f6glichkeit gab, nach zwei Dekaden wieder im Fotograben zu stehen.
\nWeiki von Helloween<\/strong> war der n\u00e4chste; und dann wurde die Sucht wieder gr\u00f6\u00dfer, und es ergaben sich weitere M\u00f6glichkeiten.<\/p>\n

Mit einem Bekannten aus meinem Ort fuhr ich zusammen zu diversen Konzerten, und er berichtete mir, dass er zusammen mit einem anderen Fotografen ein Online Magazin plane.<\/p>\n

\u201eHellfire\u201c<\/strong> <\/em>war das Produkt ihrer W\u00fcnsche und im Fr\u00fchjahr 2015 stieg ich auch wieder (hobbym\u00e4\u00dfig) ins offizielle Fotografieren und Schreiben ein.<\/p>\n

Seit 1983 sind halt eine Menge Bilder zusammengekommen: qualitativ ganz unterschiedlich und doch kann ich behaupten, dass zum Teil auch einige nicht so gelungene Schnappsch\u00fcsse f\u00fcr mich eine ganz besondere Bedeutung haben.<\/p>\n

Erinnerungen aus meinem Leben, Erinnerungen an tolle Begegnungen und, gerade in den letzten Jahren und Monaten wurde es sehr deutlich: Erinnerungen an grandiose Musiker, die ich kennenlernen und\/oder fotografieren durfte, und die heute nicht mehr unter uns sind.<\/p>\n

I was born in 1960.<\/em>
\nToday I can only guess why I felt drawn to hard music as a teenager: Rebellion, being different, consciously playing the outsider.<\/em>
\nBut that can only work in the long term if you really enjoy harder sounds.<\/em><\/p>\n

In my youth, my only contact with music was through records, which I bought with my pocket money, birthday money, Christmas money or funfair money.<\/em><\/p>\n

Then at the age of 12 I went to my first concert: Suzi Quatro with the support band Mud. Both bands were permanently in the charts in 1973 and showed a trend towards harder music.<\/em><\/p>\n

I had records by Deep Purple, UFO and Led Zeppelin at home.<\/em>
\nIt was almost impossible for me to see these bands live. It was almost impossible to find out which band was playing where and when, especially as my parents prevented me from buying any Bravo magazines. After all, there was no hard and heavy press, not to mention the Internet.<\/em><\/p>\n

More concerts followed in the mid\/late 70s: Status Quo, Queen…<\/em>
\nAnd when I turned my back on my parents‘ house, things really took off.<\/em><\/p>\n

Taking photos during concerts didn’t occur to me back then. I started doing this at the beginning of the 80s, for example at the legendary Rock Pop In Concert with Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Def Leppard, MSG, Ozzy Osbourne, Krokus, Quiet Riot and Judas Priest.<\/em>
\nBut from the audience, with a 400 film and a 135mm telephoto.<\/em>
\nThe pictures were understandably anything but good – but exhilarating. Exhilarating because I had captured, albeit rather poorly, a part of grandiose music history.<\/em><\/p>\n

I wanted more, better shots, to get closer to the bands.<\/em>
\nIn 1985, I joined the Bonn fanzine LIVE WIRE, which gave me the opportunity to meet my idols, conduct interviews and work from the photo pit.<\/em><\/p>\n

Not so easy with the technology of the time (which is not to say that it’s any better today).<\/em>
\nLight-sensitive films usually stopped at 400 ASA \/ 27 ISO.<\/em>
\nThe film cartridge contained just 36 shots and you had to refill at least once during the first three songs.<\/em>
\nAnd in the end, you only knew if you had produced something good after developing the film.<\/em><\/p>\n

In 1992 I stopped LIVE WIRE; as a hobby, in addition to my family and job, I no longer had the time.<\/em><\/p>\n

But that didn’t change my love of hard music. Countless CD purchases, a subscription to the best metal magazine \u201cRock Hard\u201d, and I was well informed.<\/em><\/p>\n

With the advent of digital photography, I tried to combine my concert visits with photography again: old contacts (remember: there were almost 20 years in between) helped me to get photo passes again.<\/em>
\nGaby Hoffmann, (then) wife of guitarist Wolf and manager of ACCEPT, was the first to give me the opportunity to stand in the photo pit again after two decades.<\/em>
\nWeiki from Helloween was next; and then the addiction grew again and more opportunities arose.<\/em><\/p>\n

I went to various concerts with an acquaintance from my town, and he told me that he was planning an online magazine together with another photographer.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHellfire\u201d was the product of their wishes and in the spring of 2015 I got back into official photography and writing (as a hobby).<\/em><\/p>\n

A lot of pictures have come together since 1983: very different in quality and yet I can say that even some of the less successful snapshots have a very special meaning for me.<\/em><\/p>\n

Memories from my life, memories of great encounters and, especially in the last few years and months, it has become very clear: memories of great musicians who I was able to meet and\/or photograph and who are no longer with us today.<\/em><\/p>\n
